At some point I bought a Raspberry Pi 2 Starter kit

pi

At the time I, and I think a lot of people, were amazed at what you could do with this thing. The first thing that I used it for was to hook it up to my TV and run Kodi with it. It worked pretty well, and handled most things I threw at it. I remember it always used to sutter at the start of Game of Thrones episodes when the HBO static intro would play. Pure randomness can’t be compressed very well and therefore has the highest bandwith requirements. I don’t know if I ever figured out if it was a processing limitation with the Pi or if it was just the wifi chip I used with it.

The second thing I used the Pi for was repurposing it as an automatic garage door opener. I hooked up the GPIO pins to a relay to the garage door and set up a small webserver that I could POST to open and close the garage door. It worked, but there was no way to tell if the garage door was open or closed, and I think I used it maybe three times.

As for the kit itself I had no complaints. I think I only bought the kit because the Pi was out of stock everywhere else.

Five stars out of five.
